I am putting down my trusty mixing spoons and hanging up my dusty studio apron as I travel to California for a month-long residency with terrazzo and concrete experts Concrete Collaborative!
I initially discovered Concrete Collaborative on social media and I was immediately in awe of their process and outcomes. Founded by three sisters in 2007, Concrete Collaborative specialises in architectural and interior surfaces including floor and wall tiles, countertops and furniture. Their surfaces are handcrafted in their Southern California based factory. They were (and still are) a huge inspiration to me. In 2018 I decided to pitch my work for showcase in their NYC Showroom and shop Concrete Love. I was delighted when they placed an order and they have been a stockist of mine ever since.
Since the beginning my journey with concrete six years ago, all of my practical skills have been self-taught through research, experimentation and learning from other artists or designers through collaboration. I am looking forward to spending four weeks working along side these talented artisans, expanding my knowledge of materials and learning new processes. I can't wait to meet the team and get stuck in!
