At the beginning of the year, I developed a series of new colourways and produced a small batch of my core vessels and homewares in each. The colours were inspired by a re-exploration of past travels – looking through photographs and finding fresh influence and enthusiasm in them. This idea to re-visit was provoked by the year of staying home and the patience, consideration and appreciation I feel I have developed throughout. I launched them here on my online shop in March and I have since written a blog post to tell the story of each palette.
The last of the five colourways – ‘Olive, Powdery Sage & Terracotta’ – is the most earthy of all the palettes. Rich olive green is contrasted with a blend of chalky mint sage and creamy terracotta. Inspired by my trip to Mexico City & Oaxaca - the large agave plants with their leaves in soft shades of dusty mint and olive which were always in sight. Joined with the joyous ceramics which adorned most market stalls - naked terracotta clay hand-built into characterful objects. This palette was influenced by a few different photographs, the many handmade trinkets I brought home with me and the warm memories the recollection roused.
Styling and photography by me with jewellery from Billie Grand.
